Beaches

The small number of beaches in the south are cut into the island’s high cliff faces, making them particularly scenic. They are rocky rather than sandy, although sand can usually be found when the tide goes out.Although the cliffs mean that a long - sometimes arduous - walk is likely to be necessary to reach the beach, they also mean that most of the time the wind does not cause too much of a problem.

The most popular beaches on the south coast are Moulin Huet and Petit Bot. Moulin Huet, like most of the south coast beaches, is at the bottom of a steep cliff path with a small car park at the top. There is a shop and tearoom half way down the path. The beach is made up of small pebbles with a small stretch of sand at low tide.Petit Bot is ideal for anyone who is prepared to walk and can also be interesting for young children, as there are plenty of rock-pools and caves to explore. The beach has a layer of pebbles at the top and a good stretch of sand.
