From the beginning the night was destined to be a success, with people queuing along the pavement, waiting for the club to open.
Inside, everything was up and ready to go.
The Sub Zero guys had all the lasers, lights and other gizmos ready and looking pretty cool.
DJ Pressure (Stuart Mair) started the night with some nice light halftime drum and bass tunes, which was a perfect way to get the momentum of the crowd going.
As usual he has the freshest sounds around, so whenever he plays you will always hear a different set full of variety and energy.
That was obvious from the crowd’s response once he stepped up a gear and started smashing out some rolling heavy baseline tunes.
Pressure played for around two hours, taking people on a journey through the sounds of drum and bass (DnB) and, I might add, it was a very energetic set which I really enjoyed MCing.
As for the Chase and Status set? Well, it was very crazy: the crowd were loving every minute of it. Will Kennard – one half of Chase and Status – really threw a set out the bag that was across the board, from DnB, dub step and grime to hip hop and house – there really wasn’t any genre that he didn’t dip into.

It was a real pleasure to MC over his set too, giving me a chance to delve into a slightly different style.
What was really new to me was seeing the crowd singing along to some of the well-known tracks that Chase and Status had as charts hits – that was a fun thing too see.
The DnB scene in general is probably the healthiest it has ever been, with tracks used on TV adverts and soundtracks for video games and major recording getting drum and bass producers to work on their tracks.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the Dub Session nights which Pressure started and I help out with.
We are planning on getting over a big name artist to celebrate the anniversary and I’m certain it will be a very good event.
DJ Arby, Clydie and I run a local night called System once every two months at Baloos Bar, which goes through the genres of DnB, hip hop, dub step and reggae. It’s a good night to put on and the Guernsey crowd always supports our nights there.
Pressure and I will also be supporting events like the Guernsey Performing Arts Festival, with drum and bass acts like Marcus Intalex and Mc Drs.
It’s an event we are both really looking forward to.
