Tom Hanks has said he feels embarrassed at the fuss that has been made over him revealing he has Type 2 diabetes.
The Da Vinci Code actor told The Late Show With David Letterman last week about his health problems and at a London Film Festival press conference suggested it may have been linked to gaining and losing weight for film roles over the years.
Now, Tom has told The Guardian he feels a bit embarrassed by the media attention his diabetes discussion has drawn.
He said: “I’m sure there’s going to be some media scandal now, saying I got it because I gained and lost weight for movie parts or something. But I doubt that.
“It’s just the way I’ve been living since I was 13. I feel a little embarrassed that everyone’s asking about it now – I thought I was just saying the truth!”
At the press conference Tom had said: “The gaining and the losing of weight may have had something to do with it because you eat so much bad food and you don’t take any exercise when you’re heavy.
“But I think I was genetically inclined to get it and I think it goes back to a lifestyle that I have been leading ever since I was seven years old, as supposed to 36.”
Tom can be seen in Captain Phillips, a film about the real-life 2009 hijacking of an American cargo ship by Somalian pirates, which is in cinemas now.
