Martin Scorsese has been honoured at the annual Los Angeles County Museum of Art gala.
Artist David Hockney was also feted at the star-studded event, which was set up to create links between the worlds of art and film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Gucci-sponsored Art + Film event was co-hosted by Leonardo DiCaprio and he paid tribute to Scorsese, who he has worked with on five movies including Gangs Of New York, The Departed and the upcoming The Wolf Of Wall Street.
The actor called the director a “master of his medium”. “When you walk into a museum like the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, you are faced with works of art that have been preserved over centuries and confronted with stories about history, culture and craft. Speaking with Martin Scorsese, you feel the exact same way because spending time with Marty is like stepping into a world-class film museum,” he said.
A host of stars attended the glitzy event, including Amy Adams, Robert Downey Jr, Salma Hayek, Zoe Saldana, Evan Rachel Wood, Kate Hudson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Warren Beatty, James Franco, Drew Barrymore and Tom Hanks. Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis, who are expecting their first baby together, were also at the bash.
Oscar-winner Hanks said: “I honestly look forward to this event every year. And I can’t say that about all the events I go to.”
Actor Michael B Jordan – who is tipped for a role in new Star Wars film Episode VII – also attended and said he was overwhelmed by the A-list guests: “Not sure I’ve ever seen a crowd like this – every person here has some major entertainment or art world accomplishment/contribution. It blows my mind.”
The evening – which raised more than four million dollars – concluded with an appearance by Sting, who treated the crowd to a performance of some of his songs.
