FIVE people were rescued by Alderney’s lifeboat after their motor cruiser caught fire seven miles north of the island.
Varga Girl was towed into Braye Harbour by the RNLI’s Roy Barker I at 2pm yesterday. The 35ft Portland-registered boat had been heading for Alderney.
Skipper Nick Moger, chairman of insurance company Young Marmalade, his wife Helen and son Adam were on board, along with Adam’s friend Richard Bucknall and Bob Elliott, of Portland-based Quality Time Training.
Mr Moger, from Tintinhull, near Yeovil, was undergoing motor cruiser training with Mr Elliott on the voyage.

Juliet dunne
No its not too small for that crossing in suitable weather.
There are many pro fisherman that fish with boats smaller than that and 35 ft is not a small boat.
Amateurs? are you sure you know what your talking about?.

Sorry Juliet you obviously know nothing about boating, sailors travel the world in boats smaller than that,35ft is not a small boat so don’t critisise unless you know the facts.
