A BLESSING of the field of remembrance took place at the Smith Street war memorial yesterday.
The Dean, the Very Rev. Canon Paul Mellor, dedicated the field in the presence of Bailiff Sir Geoffrey Rowland, Lady Rowland, Major Eric Le Quesne, the president of the Guernsey branch of the Royal British Legion, and other representatives of service organisations in the island.
Sir Geoffrey praised the States for spending money on the upkeep of monument.
‘It is important our island war memorial is maintained in good order and is fit for purpose,’ he said.
