‘Congratulations Stuart, I couldn’t have done it’

For many it is the start line for the 800-odd miles to John O’Groats, but for Stuart Hardie it was the finish line after more than 1,200 miles. Holding the tape at Land’s End is his wife, Sally. (Picture by Phil Monckton)
ENDURANCE swimmer Roger Allsopp praised marathon runner Stuart Hardie as he finally finished his 40-day challenge on Saturday.
The oldest person to swim the English Channel described Mr Hardie’s efforts as a ‘fantastic feat’ and something he said he would not have been able to do himself.
‘What he has done is amazing – it is brilliant – and when I think about it, it must have been extremely hard,’ the 70-year-old said.
‘I think he must have just got locked onto it towards the end and I remember when I was in that zone I couldn’t remember anything at that point.
‘You get past it mentally and you have to overcome the sheer physical hardness of it all and just get on with it.’

Congratulations Stuart. Great picture of you both. Long time no see; you’re looking good Sally.
Was home for four days three years ago, first time in seven years but never got to see everyone I’d hoped to.
Passed your house but unfortunately was late for getting to Gill Brock so couldn’t stop to see if you were in.
Seems a life time ago since working for you at SC.
Hope life is treating you all well.
Jean
