Electronic care records system ‘will save an extra £3.2m.’

HEALTH and Social Services’ IT project will produce £13m. of savings, a board member has said.

Deputy Mike Hadley responded to criticism from fellow board member Deputy Mary Lowe that the electronic health and social care records system had failed to deliver on expectations set out in 2006.

But Deputy Hadley (pictured) said the project had actually exceeded its target.

‘The States agreed to a capital vote of £3.9m. and is currently on target to cost £3.8m. and an estimated revenue figure of £5.8m.,’ he said.

Thank goodness we have Rep Hadley on the case, always an informed opinion, backed by facts.

Uninformed views put forward by Rep Lowe, do not inspire confidence; neither did her recent hysterical outburst, ‘my department will have to run without £…..’. Rep Lowe, to her continued chagrin does not ‘have a dept’, she is a member of a committee, just like the majority of sitting Reps; the system put in place in 2006, under the auspices of ex Rep Roffey failed due to a basic misunderstanding of technical applications, required for the job it was expected to do.

A somewhat misguided view of Hadley methinks. This is the same man who said it would cost “billions” to increase the height of our sea walls to combat a rise in sea levels. Even being ultra generous and saying that we have 20 miles of sea walls (which we don’t) that would be a minimum of £100 million per mile (based on a £2 billion cost). Or to put it even clearer £62,500 per metre. Now I know that stonemasons aren’t cheap over here but I think that’s slightly over the top don’t you??

Seems to think integration of IT has not worked previous attempts. Like little support weekends (amazingly some civ servs do work them!)
    Even poor support weekdays!
So, have the failures to date been addressed?
Is it just easier to spend money for new one?

Fair comment. I don’t though consider anything ‘over the top’ if it means we can safeguard our island.

Rep Hadley has a scientific brain, due to his previous career, I have faith in his ability. His predictions with regards reinforcement of our sea walls were a step forward for the future of our island, which is slowly being eroded, due to constant storm forces. The sea level is constantly rising, slowly, yes, but it is very apparent – think about the South Pole.

I could go on a bit, but the latest guidelines on this new type forum suggest that short comments are more desirable.
