Deputies want to know why bus talks collapsed

The bus service is in jeopardy after contract talks broke down. (1195183)
QUESTIONS over why bus contract negotiations went wrong could be answered next week as Environment tries to explain its position to deputies.
But the public could be left in the dark after Island Coachways refused to waive its confidentiality agreement, even though the department promised to protect commercially sensitive information.
The island faces being left without a bus service in a matter of months.
Environment will hope to quash calls for a vote of no confidence and dispel criticism that it has mishandled the situation following the operator’s decision to walk away from negotiations, deeming the contract to be financially unviable.

Island Coachways are probably embarrassed about the profit margins they squeezed out of the States negotiators (are they just ordinary civil servants – do they even go on a course?)
Perhaps it’s time to drop the confidentiality agreements which are so handy to hide behind when taxpayers money is involved?

Hang on a minute… doesn’t the States own the bus fleet? And when Guernseybus gave up didn’t they store the buses in all sorts of locations when they were not allowed access to the Bouet bus garage? So, why are the states being held to ransom by a not very good bus company, when they could run it themselves?? Take a look at Nottingham City Transport – owned by the council with a minority stake taken by a private operator, and operating VERY succesfully. http://www.nctx.co.uk
