The rabbit is clubbed by a man wielding a spade, but the video clip shows it still twitching more than half a minute later later.

A VIDEO showing a rabbit being battered to death depicts a despicable act of cruelty, says the GSPCA.

The charity and police are investigating the incident, in which two young men filmed themselves hitting the animal with a spade and laughing at it twitching afterwards.

Throughout the attack the pair exchange banter, laughing to the camera that ‘you have to be cruel to be kind’, while swearing repeatedly and saying words to the effect that the rabbit is doomed.

GSPCA education and welfare officer Emma Trousdale said it was a despicable act of cruelty and the charity had asked the site to block the video.

Quite sickening really. I look forward to seeing what punishment the courts will deal these two twisted individuals. Assuming that they do eventually appear in court.

No doubt another “Community Service” order will be the order of the day.

At what point will those with the powers realise that if they want to deter this type of offence, that the average man in the street would wish the offenders are locked up to reflect on their actions?

Or, perhaps we’ll wait until these graduates of animal cruelty, start clubbing another person to death with a shovel, before the court decides to act in the public’s interest?

This may of been a mercy killing on a long suffering deaf and blind rabbit that was terminally ill with “Myxomatosis”?? I can’t see a healthy rabbit hanging around for this kind of treatment… If this is not the case then, unforgivable.

Chris, I agree that they probably wouldn’t have gotten close to the rabbit unless it had myxy BUT, there’s a huge difference between dispatching one with a quick blow to the head and enjoying the whole process of chasing it and hitting it with a spade.

If these idiots were actually carrying out a “mercy Killing” why were they laughing and filming it.?????

    Totally depressing, mindless and repulsive.

And when caught a swift jail term in the UK, hardened crims don’t like animal abusers…..

Acts of animal cruelty on this island seem to go more or less unpunished, at least not to the degree that they (and their perpetrators) deserve. Often, there’s a public outcry for a few days, the police promise to investigate, and then it all goes quiet. Does anyone remember the chap a year or so ago, spotted throwing rocks at nesting birds his dogs had just mauled? I wonder what happened about that? Or, more recently, the acts carried out by kids on the Genats Estate? It’s about time that the lawmakers, the police and the courts came down hard on anyone who does something this despicable.

In this case I sincerely hope that the scum involved are caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

These kids needs to be seen by a psychologist.

As “The Body” suggests, there is often a link with animal cruelty in childhood to commiting more serious offences later in life.

Good pickup disgusted. What were they doing on the cliff path with a spade in the first place? The presence of the spade suggests it was premeditated. Maybe its a regular hobby of theirs?

I notice the sad little weasels have “apologised” in the press.

Yeah right, you are afraid of someone “taking a spade” to you so you apologise. If you genuinely felt sorry for your actions you wouldnt have done it in the first place you pathetic pair of losers. You certainly wouldnt have filmed yourselves laughing and then posted it on youtube.

What really worries me is that you 2 probably have functioning man-parts and will eventually reproduce (if you havent already got unclaimed children that is) and introduce more sick miscreants to the island.

Karma can be quite satisfying sometimes, and methinks it will be in this case, apology or not.

There are plenty of couples that both go out to work that bring up great children.

I personally think it is good for kids to have such good role models.

In “modern day Guernsey” this has to be done or a lot of couples could not afford the children they have.

    pbfalla,

Try paying a £1500 mortgage, running a house and bringing up a child on one persons income, its not through greed that both parents would work, its through necessity!!

Unless you work in the upper echelons of the finance industry sadly very few people earn enough nowadays to survive on a single wage.
