THOUSANDS of islanders marked Armistice Day by pausing for two minutes to remember those who had died in war.

Schools, businesses and High Street shoppers were among those who stopped what they were doing in a show of respect.

Royal British Legion branch president Major Eric Le Quesne marked the silence at home and said he thought about those who had died and their families.

‘We buy poppies to raise funds to help wounded ex-servicemen but the two minutes is the time when we pay our respects by silence.’
