Constables’ Office plans go in after long negotiations
Monday 14th November 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
ST PETER Port’s Constables’ Office could soon be renovated but lose its douzaine room, after a planning application was submitted following two years of negotiations.
The 18th-century building on Lefebvre Street is considered no longer suitable for modern parish life, senior constable Barry Cash has said.
Plans submitted last week were put together after parishioners rebelled against £2.5m. proposals to build a new office next to Les Cotils.
Mr Cash said it had been difficult to find a way to adapt the old building. ‘We have negotiated for so long [with the Environment Department] and this is the best solution,’ he said.
The plans can be viewed at the Environment Department until 25 November.
