BUSINESSES near a potential bus depot site expressed concern yesterday about negotiations taking place to use land behind Beeton’s Fish and Chip Shop – with one saying it would be a disaster.

Plumb Center deputy manager Mark Chick asked where the entry and exit points would be placed – the shop is directly opposite the land suggested. ‘It would be a bit of a problem for us, as you drive in and out it gets congested at times.’

Managing director of electrical contractors and engineers C D Lamb, and also owner of plumbing and heating engineers Smith and Tanguy, Chris Lamb, said the junction at the traffic lights was already congested.

HIs wife and co-owner Sally said it would be disastrous. ‘This is a really busy area anyway with the trucks – it would be an absolute nightmare.’

I wonder if they are thinking of it as a bus terminus (with buses coming and going every 10 minutes or so) rather than a bus depot (where the buses are kept overnight)?

I’m not sure the hours the buses work but is this not the depot they are talking about.
The buses would be stored here over night and be at the bus terminus during the day.
I owuld guess most of the coming and going would be before the other businesses in the area opened and after they closed.

“Disastrous?” “Nightmare?” – I had to snigger.

A hell of a lot safer than coming in and out onto the main St Sampsons to St Peter Port road at Les Banques just after a blind corner, as ICW have done for years.
I doubt there were any complaints or unjustified calls of a potential “disaster” when ICW originally parked them at the tramsheds ??

At least all the passengers now know who has prevented them having a bus service after it stops next year.

I don’t think anyone would want a bus depot in their backyard but, if it’s the most suitable place then I think it should go there, I can see trafic as a problem though, and the roads from beeton’s side are narrow

He He, Moan moan moan. Its a Depot, not a motorway.
It doesn’t really matter if it goes there as there will be 300 less cars going down there per hour when the Postal Tax Loophole is closed anway.

Perhaps the land they need is with in the Admiral park area . There is a huge part that could be used for this and with better access to it .and out of the way as well this is in front of Sydney vane house .. use this land first before any other.

The area does not have easy access ( certainly not for buses ).

And it is already a car park for, amongst other people, ICW and Intransit !!! It seems they can find ready made parking areas even if the combined might of T&R and Environment can’t ….

Good idea but that patch is privately owned
(once earmarked for a cinema I believe)

But if the States did take it on they could perhaps sort out the ridiculous situation of 8 – 10 feet wide little used pavements alongside the roadway two and a half lanes wide leading to the front

Do our planners do these stupid things on purpose?
