DEPUTY Jenny Tasker has lost her seat on St Peter Port’s douzaine.

Results from last night’s election showed Deputy Tasker received the least votes out of the six candidates contesting the five seats on the douzaine.

A total of 994 parishioners voted at the Constables Office yesterday – a percentage poll of 4.26%. There were two spoilt papers. Robert Grant received the most votes with 193, followed by Richard Lord with 187, Keith Fisher with 175, Peter Wilson received 167 and finally Lester Queripel with 150. Deputy Tasker, who sits on Environment, Education and Home, had 122 votes.

It was the first time Richard Lord has stood for the position and, after an eager wait outside, he was ecstatic with the result.

      Bring in the EU now?

Either you’re a sardonic genius or you have no idea the severe implications that would have on us.

oh come on I know Guernsey states make some serious mistakes, but please “bring in the EU”? I for one enjoy having our own currency and not having to jump on the EU “band waggon”. Take just one stupid “political correctness” rule the EU has brought in – spring onions are now to be called “salad onions” and why – because they can be purchased all year round, and then there is being forced to used the metric system (I can even recal a butcher who refused being taken to court!), give me imperial every time! and dont even get me started on their blundering around the “human rights” law thats lets all sorts of stupid crimes and illegal actities go un-punished because it is against the person’s “human rights” EU?? NO THANKS

What an excellent result. Hopefully this is the fore runner for next Aprils elections. It is a pity however that more people do not vote. I understand the apathy in this island for politics at the moment but we must vote if we are to have any hope of getting better representative government. I am in this same boat but I do make the effort even though it is difficult to choose candidates and the hardest part is to believe they will do what they say. The elections are the only time we have the power to really show them what we think and can give judgement. Once they are in many forget who and what they are representing, Voting needs to change! Island wide voting, longer period may be to vote, why only one day? The consequences can have devastating effects for the population for the next 4 years so I don’t think 2-3 days would be asking too much? More locations like Supermarkets and some sort of online voting. Lets hope the April elections brings similar results and acts as a reminder to those who are elected who they really represent and what is expected of them.

Congratulations from me to Lester Queripel who is in my mind one of a kind, A TRUE GUERNSEY MAN. This fella will hopefully sort out a lot of local issues that have needed to be sorted for a long while.
He will have my support for a very long time!

Jenny Tasker had the least votes why am I not surprised. “Good riddance” Lets hope we get some common sense back. I am sure a few more heads will roll particularly in the Environment department after the way they have messed up and damaged this island with their ridiculous decisions along with upsetting so many Islanders.
Well done to Richard now there’s a bloke with his head screwed on.

Lester Queripelcertainly has his heart in the right place, but not his brain!!

I remember him and his brother advocating on BBC Guernsey that it should be made law that you had to vote ……..Now that is not a democratic society I would like to live in , we should have the choice whether to vote or not……especially when there’s no one you like standing ….

I agree, you can’t moan if you don’t vote …..So Lets have Island wide voting.

Congratulations to all those who have been elected
Jenny lost her place ,but I can say she was a very good worker with in the douziane who knew the parish inside out .
I hope those who have said they will be working for their parish will do so.
It is good to have fresh blood and new ideas .
The parish is the jewel in the crown and needs more polishing .
This I am looking forwards to seeing the results .
But it needs team work. not one trick ponys .

I do not understand why a sitting states member wants to be on the parish douzaine. Is there not enough work to do as a parish deputy or is it a desire to have even more control over the matters that affect us.
Unfortunately politics often attracts the wrong sort of people and in our states we have too many of that ilk. I always think intelligent sensible folk steer well clear of that profession and we end up with what we have today – too many “know it alls” or “I know best” types wanting to supplement their golden pensions.

Why was Jenny Tasker standing in this election? She is already a SPP Deputy and has just been appointed to Education to help sort out the Carole Steere/LMDC school debacle. Isn’t that enough?

At least voters are now getting savvy to people who stand for election that are more concerned with power and their public profile than sorting out problems which effect every day folk.

    YOU WHATTTTTT???

    J. Tasker seemed only to work hard if it meant her or the company she was director for was gaining any benefit out of it! Well done to Richard a man Who really cares for the environment let’s hope him and Lester are not pushed out by the finance minded idiots who seek only to line their own pockets and make rich people richer!
