A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER has been scammed out of more than £700 and left trying to pay back the money out of her pension.
Rosemary Carre, 68, has kept dogs all her life, so when she saw an advertisement for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy on the internet, she got in touch with the owner.
‘I have had two [King Charles’] before and I loved them,’ she said. ‘They are easy to look after and are quiet.’
She paid £275 via MoneyGram to the puppy owner’s account, who claimed to be moving to the Isle of Man on Saturday. She then paid a further £475 for insurance. A third request came through on Monday for £245 for immunisations for the animal, but the post office said the deal was suspicious and advised Mrs Carre not to send the money.
It turned out that the money had actually been sent to Cameroon.

Vanessa,
I have a total concept of respect and compassion, where deserved.
This for so many reasons, including my additional comment re puppy farming, is not deserved. Have a look at information of ‘farming’ before giving your sympathy as well, obviously this was not an endorsed and reputable puppy supplier.
Valuable (and expensive) lesson learnt for them.

I do hope that the owner isn’t a Nigerian scam artist encouraging me to send funds internationally through a payment system well known for being used by fraudsters due to its untraceable nature.

I do hope that the owner isn’t running a puppy farm when I could rescue and re-home an unloved pet from the Animal Shelter for a nominal fee although I might have to be seen without a pedigree dog so what would the neighbours think?
