ST ANDREW’S has a new mini supermarket and petrol station.

The Channel Islands Co-operative Society opened the En Route store near Bailiff’s Cross yesterday morning.

At 3,000sq.ft it is bigger than other En Routes at L’Aumone, St Martin’s and in the Forest.

Chief executive Colin Macleod said the company regularly looked for pockets of the island where it could offer a service to islanders and had had its eye on the spot in St Andrew’s for a while.

‘When it came up, we grabbed it with both hands,’ he said.

Gave up shopping at the CO-OP and never will again when I found out deputies and Environment members were on the board of directors. It did seem they could put up new industrial units and shops wherever. While other small businesses were being told to move or being forced close?

      I agree with your comment.
The same here in Jersey, they have been opening stores all over the island to stop any other who might want to come in.
Taking over post offices and pharmacies is another of their tricks and now they have control of the lottery.
No prizes for guessing who have all the shares in the company.

you are right there is no prize for guessing who have all the shares in the company. The customers do and one person can only have one share. I hope that answers your “guess”

    @ Bella
Can you please explain how they have control of the lottery.

Also it stated in the press report that Mrs. Tasker had recently stood down as a director of the Co-Op, it should be noted that she actually lost her seat in a contested election, at the Guernsey Co -Op AGM, which was held at Beau Sejour in April 2010 i believe.

      Hi,
They closed down the the kiosk we had here and made the lady who had been there for years redundant.

Next thing we heard they gave the concession to the Co-op.
This is just the Jersey lottery,I don’t know if yours is the same.

      Hope that answers your question.

The nature of a co-operative means that each shareholder can only ever own ONE share. Like I do, and most other islanders.
