Jersey calls for commission on fishing access

JERSEY fishermen want to form a new Channel Islands fisheries commission offering reciprocal rights to all islands.

The suggestion came after Alderney, Guernsey and Sark won the right to extend control over their waters from three miles to 12.

The ruling, by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, puts the Bailiwick on the same footing as the rest of the UK and Jersey.

But Don Thompson (pictured), president of the Jersey Fishermen’s Association, said he would like to see a new fisheries management agreement drawn up between the Bailiwick and Jersey.

The Jersey fishermen seem to have a great desire to fish in our waters

    Why is this?

Have they fished out their own patch?

Thought I had previously read that Jersey had done a good job of over fishing their waters. In which case not surprised to read they want fresh ground to fish in!

It would seem the crapauds have picked their own waters clean and now want to do the same to ours under the excuse of reciprocal rights.

Again and again with them it’s been about trying to get into our fishing grounds, would they be so keen if theirs actually had anything of worth left in it?.

Can someone tell me, can we/ could we fish in Jerseys water, because it seems that their fishermen are desperate to get into our waters, but the story suggests their waters are and have been protected.

Is this a case of wanting your cake and eating it??

We have nothing to worry about

Even if the crapauds decide to try a blockade, all it will take is a call to the Guernsey Boys who have been itching to get involved again since they sorted out the problem at Cobo car park

Dear oh dear! Talk about exploring all avenues in a desperate attempt to get a chance to fish in our waters. I hope our Fisheries Dept don’t get fooled by this and tell their Jersey counterparts to get lost!
Our waters for our fishermen, please!

Instead of Jersey wasting their time and money whining about how they cant fish other waters maybe they should look at conservation of stocks in their own waters.
