Beau Sejour looks to save £400k a year
Friday 25th November 2011, 1:00PM GMT.
RECOMMENDATIONS to save £400,000 a year at the loss-making Beau Sejour are on the table.
A final business case is being produced as part of the Financial Transformation Programme that has reviewed charges and the facilities offered.
No announcement has been made about the detail of the savings – although issues such as opening times have been targeted before.
The Budget showed that the centre is expected to lose £776,000 this year, £112,000 more than budgeted but £9,000 better than in 2010.

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
It will still be loss making, just to a smaller extent… Shouldn’t they be looking at leasing it to a private operator so that it generates income for the states?

Those on the ground often have a better understanding of what’s going on
Offer the staff a £1,000 prize for the best cost cutting idea
You might end up with four or five good workable ideas and a happier staff

Hardly surprising it’s losing money hand over fist when there’s so much dead space. Walk down the stairs past reception and there’s a huge open area used for nothing apart from the occasion reception. I don’t know who approved the design but parts of it look more like a vanity project than a functional leisure centre.

Reply to Fermain : If it is privitised what will happen to dusabled swimming, Life Fit,
Ron Short Centre, Eisteddford, Cardio Rehab,
school activities, GADOC, Creche,
Kiddy Kapers, Swim School, Senior gym concession, Club Bons Amis, etc. All the peripheral ares will go and prices will rocket.
Agree with Paul. Lots of under utilised space.
Shake up the chiefs. The poor Indians get enough stick in most States Depts. Usually cost cutting effects them.
Also show me a council run leisure centre, that is run for the benefit of the community, in the UK that makes a profit. It was never designed to make money, but to waste it, no.

Isn’t the function to provide something for people to do. It should be free for all.

The reason is because it is NOT a leisure centre but a sports centre.
Tell me, if anyone does not like watching or doing sports what can you do there????

Reply to Stone de Croze as to what goes on that is not a sport.
Theatre (GADOC), Eisteddford, comedy shows,
Ideal Home show, Trades Fair, Concerts, Ron Short Centre, exam venue, training venue (firms etc), quizzes, Children` parties, discos, cafe, bar, corporate events, meeting rooms, creche, etc etc. It is also the islands main emergency centre in case of a major disaster.
Hope that helps!

Le Andre,
It is your insinuation that a privately run Beau Sejour would cut public services, not mine.
In suggesting a lease I am contrasting its administration to that of another states-owned leisure asset: Herm. As with Herm, the terms of a lease could be structured to require the fulfillment of certain public services by the operator.
To turn the comparison on it’s head, could you imagine the losses Herm would land the states with it were run like Beau Sejour, using states employees?!

Reopen the cinema and drop the swimming price a little both would encourage me up there more often
