Winter lets are vital to us, say hoteliers
Friday 25th November 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
L'Atlantique Hotel has been told that its long-term winter residents must move out.
HOTELS are becoming more reliant on winter lets in order to survive the off-season, proprietors have said.
Atlantique leaseholder Roy Smith claimed in yesterday’s Guernsey Press that many hotels depended on non-tourist trade.
His comments came after he was issued a planning compliance notice from Environment ordering him to evict all permanent residents. But Mr Smith responded by saying his guests would have been accommodated only from November to March to help pay his bills over winter – something many businesses did to survive.
Hotel Dunchoille managing director Maggi Pryke agreed that winter lets had become common practice.
‘It’s important because you just don’t get the tourists coming to the island at this time of year,’ she said.

So
These compliance non jobs walk around with clipboards and committee made rules and actually earn for the island exactley how much in hard income.
Mr Smith and others have taken out loans and no doubt pay a certain percentage of the rent they receive to the islands tax coffers.
Is there any politicians who have the backbone to stop civil servants ( paid by the taxpayer ) from stopping the taxpayers from earning an honest living.
The other option is for Environment to pay the weekly bills for the Hotels so they can stay empty off season. No I didn´t think so.

The Environment department are absolute idiots, I don’t understand why we have so many civil servants working in that area. None of them seem to very clever.
