HSSD warns that efficiency savings can go only so far

STAFF need more time to adapt to the changes caused by Health and Social Services efforts to cut costs, the department has said.

It follows news that HSSD budget will be cut by £2.35m. next year.

The department has already made a series of changes to reduce costs by a total of £4.7m. this year and a spokesman said staff needed more time to adapt.

‘Changing the way services are delivered will inevitably cause anxiety and uncertainty among staff while the changes take place.

‘However, HSSD staff should be applauded for the efforts they have made to make these changes happen.’

“Now listen very carefully, I will say this only once.”

I only hope that the people in charge of the purse strings in The States are listening very carefully.

THE ABOVE ARTICLE IS THE OPENING GAMBIT OF DEPUTY HUNTER-ADAMS EITHER OVERSPENDING HIS BUDGET OR ASKING FOR MORE LATER.

I`ve tumbled your tactics Mr. Hunter-Adams, at a later date you will either ask for more money or overspend your budget and then say, “Well I did warn you in December” and you`ll expect the sheep in The States to submit to your excuses and give you what you ask for.

You have a budget so stick to it.

My dad once told me, “If you can`t afford to buy something then wait until you can, If it`s important it`s worth waiting for.”

I`ve lived under that principle for 65 years and I am now in a position of modest wealth and I OWE NO-ONE. It`s a shame that the States Committees can`t do the same.

Everyone wants the best there is but if the budget is tight then they have to tighten their belts and live on what they can afford.
How do you think this reccession started and why do you think we`re in the doggy-doo?
Because people are living on credit.

Do your part to get the islands out of the red and into the black by sticking to your budget and stop making excuses, or false reasons, for using more than your share of OUR money.

WE`RE WATCHING YOU AND THE OTHER MINISTERS.

If he can’t find the efficiencies he’ll just have to cut services then.

He’d gain a lot more respect if he tackled the issues head on rather than just complaining that it’s all very difficult and making excuses for not taking tough decisions.

He’s clearly not up to the job. We need someone with a lot more resolve leading this department to push the budget cuts through.

Now I hate to say I told you so but, I TOLD YOU SO.:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-guernsey-16004892

This man is unbelievable by the thickness of his skin and deafness when told to do something. Now it`s a cut in his budget`s cut(if you can understand that.) From £2.36 million to £1 million and I forecast he will ask for all his budget allocation by New Year and an overspend by Easter.

He must be reigned in like the rest of us and ORDERED to comply with his current budget costs. How can we make our sacrifices in our budgets when the leaders of our States of Guernsey are prepared to flout the rules so publicly.
