AGAINST the odds, Battle of Britain Week raised £21,000, it has been revealed.

Alan Brunger, chairman of the Royal Air Forces Association’s local branch, said it was only £4,000 short of last year’s total when he made the announcement last night.

The fund-raising target for the Wings Appeal was thrown into doubt when the air display had to be cancelled due to the weather.

And the disbandment of 201 (Guernsey’s Own) Squadron also meant the loss of around 30 or 40 men and women who had in the past collected money on the streets.
