JERSEY’S Victoria College beat Ladies’ College to take the trophy at the first Channel Islands De Putron Challenge final yesterday.
Having won the De Putron Challenge for Jersey schools last week, Victoria overcame Ladies’ College, the winning Guernsey school, in a close-fought battle across seven rounds showing particular knowledge of their specialist subject; British politics since 2000.
With Ralph Spencer-Tucker leading his team to victory, there were many tense moments where neither team wanted to throw points away with a wrong answer.
In the final round, on the subject of film, the Ladies’ College team, captained by Laura Bampton, looked set to catch the boys with a run of seven correct answers. But Victoria then took over once more to seal the win by building an eight-point lead.
Hayley de Putron, global head of investor relations at De Putron Fund Management said: ‘It was great to stage the first Guernsey and Jersey final and congratulations to both schools for such a commendable effort.
‘They all showed a huge amount of knowledge across a wide range of topics.’
