Town businesses and shoppers fear loss of long-term parking

SHOPPERS will be driven away from Town if 200 parking spaces are lost for three years, businesses have warned.

The 10-hour spaces on North Beach could be cordoned off for use by the harbour for 30 months, if planning permission is given.

Businesses were shocked by the idea.

Machon’s Jewellers owner Will Van Zanten was very concerned

‘It’s ludicrous,’ he said. ‘There is already a shortage of parking in Town.’

No, shoppers will drive away as there is no parking, we won’t be ‘driven away’ as there won’t be any buses!

Silly over the top headline/reaction – how many people spend 10 hours shopping in town?

I think the question is not “how many people spend 10 hours shopping in town” but how many shoppers spaces will be taken by commuters who keep going out every 2 or 3 hours to change their clocks?

Can someone tell me why the East Arm of the QE11 Marina wouldn`t be big enough for this secure paddock? Could it be that the deputies must have somewhere to put their yachts and powerboats?
Seriously, there must be room there for the storage of the Equipment and have straight access to the Quays to be worked on.
Surely they wouldn`t need the car park areas as well, would they? Are they going to store the equipment for the whole project before starting or are they going to have a rolling delivery of essential equipment as they reconstruct the berths and cranes?

I think Bernie`s tugging at our g-strings to see what reaction he gets before trying it on for real.
They`ve built an Olympic Park and Underground station in London by using a rolling equipment provision programme, maybe we should get one of their logistic people to work out a plan for Bernie now that they`ve nearly finished in London.
