DAMAGED cars, noise and anti-social behaviour have left some residents near Maurepas Road, St Peter Port, distressed and wanting to move house.

The most recent incident saw a number of vehicles damaged between 3pm on Tuesday and 7.30am on Wednesday.

It was the latest in a long line of disturbances in the area in which cars have had their tyres punctured, wing mirrors and windows smashed and objects have been thrown at houses.

Caroline Le Cras, 51, found that the van of her partner, Alan Vaudin, had been damaged on Tuesday.

She said it was the latest in a number incidents that had left her wanting to move house after three-and-a-half years.

‘Tis the season of goodwill….mmmmm! Not that this sort of wanton vandalism is acceptable at any time of the year! More social breakdown on view. Never mind “modern day Guernsey”; this is “modern day living”. Having been the recipient of various acts of anti-social behaviour over the years, I have full sympathy with the lady mentioned. Neighbours of mine had even telephoned the police but what are they going to do? Send out a car for every piece of petty vandalism reported? The “people” doing these sorts of things don’t care; they have no respect. Can’t the parents be held accountable or can we have some stiffer sentences please?

Plaster the offenders picture and name all over the media, take away their driving licences, make the parents responsible if they are under 18,and give sentences in the Courts that are realistic, and served in full. But this is just a dream, the breakdown in society is widespread, and its going to get worse.

Anyone heard of CCTV? The states should pay for it in hotspots of this kind of anti social activity. Then these idiots can be locked up.

Unfortunately the standard of CCTV pictures in the island is of such pathetic quality as to be worse than useless and invariably makes everybody with two arms and two legs a prime suspect

There is an opening here for anyone who can provide a decent CCTV service

I hope nobody in Maurepas Road is trying to sell their house at the moment, or in the near future, because the Le Cras/Vaudin partnership has just knocked £10,000 off any asking price they may put on their property.
Who`s going to buy into a trouble ridden area unless they can get a bargain buy.

Sometimes it pays to just tackle the problem quietly.
