Card charges ‘will just go on the price of an airline ticket’
Saturday 24th December 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
AURIGNY has warned that the cost of credit card transactions will be built into the price of flights in future.
MD Malcolm Hart (pictured) said the price of flying would not fall, despite proposals by the UK Treasury to ban excessive card fees online.
‘Transaction charges applied by card payment processors are only a part of the overall cost of card transactions.
‘In addition to these, we have hardware, software development, communications, and the most onerous of all – the ever-tightening security requirements imposed upon us to ensure customers’ card details are kept secure,’ he said.

The price of flying may not fall – but at least passengers will know exactly what they are paying at the beginning of the ticket – buying process and not be slapped in the face by ridiculous and excessive extra charges at the end.

Exactly! I don’t expect to have so-called add-ons at the supermarket. Why on earth should airlines be different?

This is nothing to do with c/cards, this is all to do with the airlines grabbing your attention with the lowest possible priced fares.
If all airlines worked as it used to be then fares would seem higher, but with no extras thrown in, who remembers the days of booking a flight and for your fare, you had a 20kg bag allowance, and could sit together, for no extra fee !
this is pure marketing spin, “lets attract you with a £29 fare, but bring it up to the right cost by adding bag, seat, security, taxes etc, so we still get you to pay the price in the end” If the airline charges, eg, £100 to fly to London, it wants to attract you with a seemingly good offer, which it does , by selling you a flight at low cost, then makes the price up by adding all the extras!
Credit card charges per sector is an absolute con and just a way of getting you to give them your money to make up the fare to the correct selling price. £4.oo per person per sector, rubbish! And as for the excuse that it is for website security ,more rubbish, i use Amazon a lot, do they charge me a card charge for each item i buy,NO. and i think Amazon have a much higher level of web security than Aurigny.
If these charges by the c/card companies are so high, why can i not save money by going to Aurignys desk at the airport and pay for my ticket by cash or cheque minus the c/card charge? Simple, because, there is not such a charge, just a reason for them to get the money for the fare out of us by stealth!flyer

You have hit the nail absolutely on the head flyer.

I expect the fares to only go up a few pence then to cover the ACTUAL cost of the transaction! Any more would be profiteering wouldn’t it.

Always good to read the article. Oh, you didn’t.

If you book and pay and the desk with cash you dont pay credit card charges but i think the fare might be higher.
