DEPUTIES will be asked to approve plans to investigate the benefits of merging Guernsey Water and Guernsey Electricity.

The Public Services Department will ask the January States sitting to agree that there is potential in a combined utilities proposal.

‘A number of synergies and efficiencies could be anticipated through an amalgamation between the (merged) Guernsey Water business and Guernsey Electricity, and … additional investigation into this possibility should be conducted,’ PSD minister Bernard Flouquet (pictured) said in the most recent Billet d’Etat.

The idea was mooted earlier this year when both Guernsey Electricity managing director Alan Bates, and director of water services Andrew Redhead backed the move.
