Clipper battles waves three storeys high

Members of Cash The Legend, a Johnny Cash tribute band, were singing the blues yesterday after enduring a nightmare journey to the island for a private function. ‘Johnny Cash’ himself, otherwise known as Peter Jackson, and band member Nick Player, who has his own Buddy Holly show, were on board the Commodore Clipper as it battled through waves three storeys high. COMMODORE Clipper’s 25-hour journey through storm force winds and waves the size of three-storey buildings finally ended yesterday afternoon.
It docked in Jersey just before 3pm with the help of a tug having first been diverted through Guernsey at around 10.30pm on Wednesday and then spent much of the time sheltering after that off the east coast of the sister island.
Waves had peaked at 33ft – but only one of those passengers scheduled to go to Jersey took the option of getting off in Guernsey instead of finishing their journey.
Those who remained on board were served free fish and chips to keep their spirits up.
