A CINEMA, restaurants and more offices could be built as part of a £50m. development at Admiral Park.

But the cinema would only go ahead if a company could be found to run it.

The proposed scheme, on the 215,500sq. ft site opposite Waitrose, is almost certainly the last opportunity for a major development within St Peter Port.

Its developers said the site, which includes Sydney Vane House, could provide a massive boost to Guernsey’s construction industry and economy as a whole.

Another lot of big faceless boxes. is there not any plans for a petrol station here?
this area need to be developed the sooner the better but lets have some plans of building that we will be proud to show off in 100 years times.
this is a huge area ,I do hope that folks who live in the surrounding area will be thought of,

This whole area causes me many wasted hours over the course of each week with its poor road layout. Manys the day I’m sat stopped in the car waiting waiting waiting for someone to take pity and let me out to continue into yet another queue of stand-still traffic…

The pedestrian crossings that aren’t lit up would be an accident waiting to happen if people actually used them, but alas they are positioned in such thoughtless places that people would rather run across the road elsewhere, dodging traffic just because it’s more convenient! And I don’t blame them! And don’t get me started on the cycle paths are hardly ever used, or absurdly wide pavements!

The layout of the roads in Admiral Park is a complete farse, and the amount of time motorists spend here in gridlock on both weekdays and on saturdays is testament to the fact that yes, it’d be great to put such buildings in such a people-rich area, but unfortunately I doubt many folk would get within a mile of any new cinema before they were stuck queing in traffic for hours!

Lovely idea, but they need to give the road layour a serious re-think I’m afraid.

I’m no traditionalist and I actually like a lot of the much criticised modern residential architecture that has sprouted up over recent years.

However, Admiral park is guernsey’s great disgrace. Whilst fruit exports sheds and the garage were unsightly, how did we end up with “slough on sea”? It’s a travesty that authorisation ever was ever given for this blight on the island.

Does anyone know who was responsible for its planning approval and what the politics were / are behind the decision?

I’m no traditionalist and I’ve always quite liked the Admiral Park buildings along the seafront and IMO they blend in superbly with the older buildings either side. I also very much like the look of this proposed new development including the new cinema complex. Bring it on big time I say.

Seems to me we were promised a cinema several years ago. Are they promising us another one that won’t materialise?

Yes – at last – well hopefully it will actually happen this time – I wait til I go away to watch a movie cos I don’t like the idea of paying to sit in a public “lounge” with a screen not much bigger than my TV – but love going to a proper cinema in the UK. Fingers crossed….

Wasn’t a cinema proposed for the old B&Q site a dozen years ago when they first started the Admiral Park development?

What cinema chain would want to operate it when there is obviously no market for a cinema in the Island and the cinema chains are struggling to survive in the UK.

Would locals be willing to pay the £8-£9 for a cinema ticket in what will probably be another version of their front room with a screen little bigger than a flat screen tv.

Those in power, have the power. April cannot come soon enough. The time has come for one big shakeup.

It was obvious that once the first stage of Admiral Park was completed that ‘more of the same’was likely to be built, but like most people with ‘common sense’ why six stories?

If I were the Headmaster this would not have been acceptable. Yet again we have a case of the ‘tail wagging the dog.’ All this is driven by one desire, GREED
