PSD takes a step towards running ports commercially

GUERNSEY Airport and Guernsey Harbours are a step closer to being commercialised.

Public Services wants thoroughly to investigate establishing two States trading companies to run the facilities.

The proposals are contained within reports due to go before the Assembly in March.

Minister Bernard Flouquet said Guernsey Airport and Guernsey Harbours operated as business units within PSD.

But the Policy Council’s predecessor, Advisory and Finance, and the Office of Utility Regulation had, in the context of the Fundamental Spending Review, suggested that the government might not necessarily be the best provider.
