PSD’s ‘poor consultation’ is criticised as spaces go

CONSULTING over the temporary loss of 200 North Beach parking spaces could have spared Public Services from the backlash, Environment’s board said yesterday.

An application to use part of the car park for trailers for the duration of the harbour crane project was approved unanimously at an open planning meeting.

But proposals to mitigate that loss, which will allow regular harbour operations to continue while four cranes on berths four and five are replaced with two mobile ones, were criticised by the politicians.

Public Services had originally suggested replacing the spaces with those currently reserved for permit holders and other port users.

So, if they had consulted but come to the same conclusion – that the spaces had to be forfeit to allow the trailers to be onsite – would Joe Public have been any happier?

    Hmm.

Sometimes tough (read: unpopular) decisions have to be made, this may well just be one of them.

Well done PSD lets get rid of parking spaces people pay good money for, that lets face is needed and also it is practically money for nothing! MOST of the people need them because they work off island for periods of time or live on other islands. It would be interesting to see who actually keeps theirs – or will that be another closed “hierachial” debate!! Why not use Admairal park 2 storey car park during the week for park and ride, it is empty most of the time and only half full at weekends.
