Minister’s view on consortium’s waste option ‘ridiculous’

SEWAGE treatment lobbyists have upped their campaigns ahead of this week’s States vote on the issue.

Dick Bilborough, pictured, is part of the Longue Hougue Project Development Company consortium, which had offered to build an all-in-one solution for liquid and solid waste.

He said comments by Public Services minister Deputy Bernard Flouquet questioning whether any spending on treatment would have an environmental benefit were ‘ridiculous’.

Mr Bilborough said that international standards could get tougher within 10 years.

Worry about any future legislation when that time arrives. The island has not got funds spare for a never ending list of capital projects.

At the rate everybody seems so keen on spending vast amounts of money we will end up in debt with no end of measures being introduced so the books can be balanced one way or another.

For centuries we have pumped our sewage into the sea. Very little evidence has shown much damage is being done by the practice.

None of us live in an ideal world. It’s about time folk realised that.

SAS resorting to a dirty tricks campaign does little other show how petty they are.

I agree re the never ending list of capital projects … airport…sewage…harbour … waste…schools…bus replacements… slaughter house…prison workshop

It seems that at every monthly States meeting some committee or other presents their favourite wish list item costing X million

My wish list item would be for a digital screen on the wall behind the Bailiff, similar to the Olympic count down board, only counting UP the current and future outlay as wish list items are sanctioned in order to concentrate a few minds

Perhaps a second screen totting up the extra stealth taxes the average local household will have to find to fund these projects would also be helpful

I’m wondering how many other destinations where surfers choose to go to take up their hobby treat sewage?

A very tiny minority would be my guess.

Maybe they should go and target them with their dirty underhanded childish campaigns.

At best they would be imprisoned, then deported. At worst they’d be beaten black and blue or even killed.

One of the best surfing spots that many ardent surfers visit is Morocco; been there enough time myself. Cement Works, villages pouring untreated sewage into the sea and you can actually smell at Tagazhout the effluent in the water.

I’ll be watching carefully the SAS advisory notes to boycott the West Coast of Africa.
