WALKERS are disgusted by the amount of rubbish that has been dumped in a St Sampson’s green lane.
Fly-tippers have left items including a washing machine, television, toys and car parts in the lane, which is near the entrance to the Island Bowl and leads onto the Baubigny Schools pathway.
Carl Bisson, 44, uses the route regularly and said he was sick of seeing the mess left by fly-tippers.
‘If I wanted to be surrounded by rubbish on my recreational walk I would go for a walk round the Chouet landfill.’

This is disgraceful and the police should stop it. Surely they could stake out likely sites with CCTV to catch these filthy dumpers red handed. There is no excuse for fly-tipping but it became inevitable when the States ended the bulk refuse scheme. However much the scheme cost, it was better value than all these emergency clean up operations and fairer to the law abiding public.

Beanjar, flytipping was just as rife whilst the free bulk refuse scheme was in operation, so I feel you are just looking to knock the States for a ‘social’ problem that isn’t new. The scheme still offers good value for those who can’t take items to the free recycling facilties.. £15 for 3 large items… where else would you be able to get stuff picked up and disposed of for that cost?
Flytipping in my opinion is despicable and senseless as it blights our envirmonment and costs every tax payer soemwhere along the line.
I personally think there should be some sort of ‘reward’ scheme for anyone who reports such action, and maybe make the offender pick up other flytipping just to ‘educate’ them a little; but that’s probably against human ‘rights’ so unlikely to happen.

beanjar there ARE sites that have had CCTV cameras installed…………………….
However bearing in mind how bad some of the images I have seen printed in the Press recently have been whether they will actually lead to any prosecutions is another matter entirely. AND of course the cctv, investigation and prosecution all cost us even more then just having it cleared up.

Agreed. After the most recent outdoor CCTV shots were printed in the Press I have been keeping my eye open for suspicious looking Lego men

What really amazes me is that flytippers have to go to significant effort to flytip – often more than would be required to take the item to Longue Hougue. I hope the people are caught and someone can ask them WHY. Is it lack of education? Is it because they think it will cost hundreds to have removed properly? I’d love to know

What does the proximity to a path to schools has to do with the story. The issue is fly tipping, whether that’s in a quiet lane or a busy footpath it is just as serious an issue.
I’m not sure what the maximum penalty for fly tipping is but whoever does it should have the book thrown at them. It is a terribly anti-social activity!
