VOICE for Victims campaigner Zibby Yates will hit the streets today to drum up island support in favour of positive changes for those affected by child sex abuse.

The Voice for Victims campaign, which has been launched by The Guernsey Press, aims to present 10,000 signatures to policymakers in the hope they will pledge to do more to protect children and support victims of these types of crimes.

‘I’m hoping that businesses can support this campaign by having a petition in stores because we need as many signatures as possible,’ said the 36-year-old survivor of child sex abuse, who is spearheading the campaign.

‘I know there’s an awful lot of strong feeling around this subject and I hope that we can get enough support to really make a difference to the lives of victims. It’s something I feel very strongly about and if I feel strongly about something, I’d rather campaign to make a positive difference than moan about it.’

  • As of today the petition is available at Cobo Tea Rooms, Cobo Village Centre and Cobo Chippie, Guernsey Gardens, Sigma, Hair Affair, R.H. Gaudion & Sons Ltd and Forest Stores as well as The Guernsey Press offices.
