THE lifeboat was called out yesterday afternoon when a Portsmouth-registered yacht ran into trouble six miles off St Martin’s Point.

The twin-masted Muryana completed its journey from France to St Peter Port towed by the Spirit of Guernsey.

Muryana’s crew radioed at around 3.30 to report fuel problems, saying it was unable to proceed unassisted. Both vessels were in St Peter Port Harbour at  around 5.30.

While the lifeboat was in service with the Muryana, local power boat AJ broke down off Soldiers’ Bay.

The fishing boat Discovery was close by and towed AJ back into St Peter Port.

I am surprised a sailing boat required towing six miles because of engine failure when there was a nice breeze.
