A PETANQUE court would transform a ‘derelict’ area along the St Peter Port seafront, Muse cafe owner Steve Le Poidevin has said.
He welcomed the recent proposals to create two new petanque courts at a piece of land between North Beach and Glategny Esplanade – an area his cafe overlooks.
The courts are the idea of Dave Bartram, who recently founded the QE11 Petanque Club. He said if the plans were approved, he hoped islanders would take part in a business league during their lunch break.
Mr Le Poidevin said he agreed with the idea and would be happy to store the equipment needed for playing the traditional French game, which he would then hire out.

Not a bad idea for this area but to say “transform a derelict area” is a bit strong but typical these days when someone wants something done.

Why is Steve Le Poidevin so camera shy?

To BJ
He is probably camera shy because idiots like you post comments like that

Hardly standing in front of the designated area – right behind her is the main road to St Sampsons!

BJ, I think Steve has a very comely smile. That is Steve isn’t it?

Fantastic idea to recreate the ambience of a sleepy French village. What could be more tranquil than a game of boule whilst spinning out that coffee/brandy or 33cl beer?
Ignore for a moment the dual carriageway with no safe crossing point, Guernsey’s largest roundabout, cycle track and 35mph slip road to Guernsey’s largest car worship area….

Clochemerle
Can you elucidate re the 35mph slip road ?

At least it would turn a small unused area of land into something useful. What do you propose should be done with it?

Sorry, my post was meant to be a reply to Clochemerle’s rather negative comment at No. 7 but I pressed the wrong button :(

Petanque court would revitalise ‘derelict’ area. Yeah for a week or two then they could maybe use it for a dog loo or something :)
I suspect it won’t be dog poo that is as much of a problem as cat poo. I hope that they will cover the sand up over night or it could well be full of the stuff.

Amazing, Health & Safety must have put this out as an early April fools gag?

A better idea would be grubbing out those eyesore bushes and the ramp and creating another 50 car parking spaces.
