A PETANQUE court would transform a ‘derelict’ area along the St Peter Port seafront, Muse cafe owner Steve Le Poidevin has said.

He welcomed the recent proposals to create two new petanque courts at a piece of land between North Beach and Glategny Esplanade – an area his cafe overlooks.

The courts are the idea of Dave Bartram, who recently founded the QE11 Petanque Club. He said if the plans were approved, he hoped islanders would take part in a business league during their lunch break.

Mr Le Poidevin said he agreed with the idea and would be happy to store the equipment needed for playing the traditional French game, which he would then hire out.

Who is going to pay for the extra policing to control the crowds and where are all the spectators going to park?

Not a bad idea for this area but to say “transform a derelict area” is a bit strong but typical these days when someone wants something done.

Fantastic idea to recreate the ambience of a sleepy French village. What could be more tranquil than a game of boule whilst spinning out that coffee/brandy or 33cl beer?

Ignore for a moment the dual carriageway with no safe crossing point, Guernsey’s largest roundabout, cycle track and 35mph slip road to Guernsey’s largest car worship area….

At least it would turn a small unused area of land into something useful. What do you propose should be done with it?

Petanque court would revitalise ‘derelict’ area. Yeah for a week or two then they could maybe use it for a dog loo or something :)

A better idea would be grubbing out those eyesore bushes and the ramp and creating another 50 car parking spaces.
