Portinfer residents concerned over frequency of car crashes

This police photograph shows the white Honda which span out of control along the Portinfer coast road on Thursday night. Residents are concerned about the number of serious road traffic accidents that have taken place there.

Last Thursday night saw a white Honda spin in the road, hitting walls either side.
Traffic sergeant John Tostevin said the car suffered extensive damage and the driver was lucky not to have received any injuries.
Enquiries are ongoing and officers have asked to hear from anyone who saw the Honda or another white car travelling from Cobo towards Portinfer shortly before 9.30pm, the time of the crash.
Part-time swim school teacher Sarah Holland, 33, said she heard some cars speeding most nights.

I live just off Bridge and can hear cars speeding down Bulwer, Bridge, North Side or around the lanes depending on wind direction.
I can easily understand how she could hear people speeding if you live on/near that road.

I live on the road and can assure you that we often hear people speeding along our road, each accident is getting worse and it is only a matter of time before someone dies I am really surprised no one has been injured yet!!! My husband was one of the many people who were assisting with directing traffic and it is surprising that after the accident happened how many people were still speeding when he was trying to stop them to turn them round!

Although having said that, maybe I’m confused about where this happened, or the photo is deceiving, but how the hell do you crash on a straight section of road? Think this person needs to retake their test at the very least and ideally some advanced training. Even if they were being a bit “enthusiastic” with the throttle (which i personally have no problem with depending on the conditions), it wouldn’t have these consequences unless they were being stupid.

C’mon, how old was the driver? Needs more learner time behind the wheel and re-test if he/she crashed along a straight piece of road (unless the excuse that the obliging cat ran out in front of them is dropped into the conversation….)

The trouble is idiots that think driving too fast is fun – also some of the cars these kids can get insured for is unbelievable.
I think as long as this accident is proven to be caused from excessive speed rather than road conditions, that this and other instances like this should result in an instant 2 year ban and a heavy fine. Maybe a suspended prison sentence – anything to deter is a good thing in my view. Also test should be taken again after 2 years.

Attempted suicide by automobile seems to be quite a popular hobby, around the Island. Also in Jersey.

I live on portinfer road. These crashes happen with cars travelling at ‘stupid’ speeds heading north. There is a slight left turn before Gillingham pools. Generally, ‘boy racers’ lose control of their car around this ‘slight’ left corner and plough into the wall on the opposite side of the road. I’m telling you, it won’t be long before there’s some real serious injury and when it happens, it will not be coming as a surprise… I concure with Sarah’s comments, every single night you hear speeding cars funneling through this section of road.
