‘Business backgrounds mean new deputies will not shy away from tough decisions’

AN INFLUX of politicians with business backgrounds should ensure the next States avoids ducking out of decisions, the Chamber of Commerce has said.
President Julian Winser, pictured, was intrigued by the number of successful candidates with backgrounds in the private sector following Wednesday’s election.
‘We’re not interested in specific views but we are pleased to see enough new people with the experience of working in business in the States to take on the big decisions,’ he said.
He said the Assembly would have to make some tough choices on issues such as the ageing population – which could lead to controversial considerations including raising the retirement age.
