High school puts on party for 80 OAPs

STUDENTS at St Sampson’s High School yesterday hosted Jubilee celebrations for elderly members of the community.
The tea party in the school hall was organised as part of the students’ volunteering section of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards.
The celebrations were particularly special for 91-year-old Ethel Wolley, who was in London to witness the Queen’s coronation in 1953.
‘It was a bitterly cold day when I went to the coronation and it didn’t stop raining. But the warmth of the people celebrating made up for it,’ she recalled.
‘It is fantastic to have been invited by young students.’
