500 people in first hour at Big Top Party

BOUNCY castles, gladiator games and making crowns and tiaras were some of the activities taking place at the Big Top Party at Cambridge Park on Saturday.
Hundreds of people attended the event, which was accompanied by beautiful weather.
St Peter Port constables secretary Martyn Guilbert, who helped to organise the event, thought about 500 people had turned up in the first hour alone.
Islanders had also been turning up before the event officially began.
‘There is a good crowd here,’ he said. ‘The Duke of Richmond have organised the bar and the food and it has been great.’

We went there with our two year old. It was great to see such a broad mix of people there representing the diversity of island life.
Some good entertainment for children – the kids races were fun, catering for different age groups.
The bouncy castles were excellent, with three different ones catering for different age ranges, meaning our two-going-on-three year old was free to jump around without getting squashed by 10 year olds.
Punch and Judy was OK if you’re into that kind of thing, a few other games were there and looked fine – we didn’t look as they were geared for the older kids.
Didn’t visit the beer tent but looked fine from where we were. The free food from the Duke of Richmond was good quality and plentiful, with two servings and some excellent chocolate brownies. The hot food stall was the only real disappointment – we got there at lunchtime and they simply weren’t prepared – not a great advert for the company.
On the whole very well organised – a couple of times some kids got lost and were quickly found again. The St John’s Ambulance were in attendance and very friendly, letting our daughter have a look round the ambulance – and it was good to see at least one parish Deputy getting involved (Lester Queripel, take a bow).

Even the chief minister was there picking up rubbish as he is also like Lester a Douzenier
It was well organised like you said and i was amazed at the amount of people who took the time to come and say thank you at the end of it.
As a Douzenier myself I was privileged to meet so many people and see how much fun they all had .
Like you said the food was very good and a good selection on sandwiches, fruit salad and brownies .
The bar was very good and the staff were very friendly.
it was also good to see the recycle bins so we could recycle as much as possible
And to our park keeper who work so hard for day to prepare the park for us and also to pick the litter up as the day went on
just goes to show what can happen when you all work together .
I would love to see many more parish events on this super park .

I agree re the hot food stall, there was 30 people in the queue and he had 6 rashers of bacon on and about 10 onions trying to cook in a small tray! Useless. No organistation, too busy looking around and drinking fizzy drinks than attending to customers!
Thank god for the Duke of Richmond, food was great and really well organised.

We went along and were very impressed. A very well organised event with lots for the children to do we where there for over three hours and they did not complain of being bored once!
They played the games, helped paint a castle, made crowns and tiaras, tucked into a free picnic, bounced, watched punch and judy and loved having a sit in the Ambulance and playing with the Siren!

We went as a family, my wife, and grandson and had a fabulous time. Rodrigo who is 2 loved the bouncy castles and the games. It was well thought out and a credit to the organisers. It was good to see the Chief Minister and Bailiff as well as other Parish Officials there getting involved and joining in. My memory of that day is a very happy little boy surrounded by a lot of happy smiling people having fun. I’d like to use this forum to thank the organisers.
