HUNDREDS of people converged on L’Islet Common on Saturday as the Vale and St Sampson’s parishes held a joint celebration of the the Queen’s 60-year reign.

Music, food, bands, and children’s activities were just some of things on offer from 3pm when the Lt-Governor, Air Marshal Peter Walker, declared the event open.

Sisters Wendy Le Cras and Jenny Steer met His Excellency for the first time. They said they spoke about what was happening in London to mark the Diamond Jubilee, specifically on Tuesday when Mr Walker said he would be attending the service at St Paul’s Cathedral.

‘We’ll never see another Diamond Jubilee and this is something we’ll always remember,’ said Mrs Le Cras.
