JUBILEE celebrations were enjoyed by thousands without many problems, as only 16 arrests were made over the four-day weekend.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the arrest total – from Friday night to yesterday – and said Monday night had been particularly quiet for officers, with no arrests made.

‘I think everyone has wanted to enjoy the long bank holiday weekend, so it has been pretty quiet,’ she said. ‘Not all of the 16 arrests were related to the Jubilee celebrations either.’

Officers picked up islanders for a variety of crimes, including three people for assault, four for drink-driving, a couple of thefts and one person taken in for being drunk in a public place.

Culture and Leisure minister Mike O’Hara tried to attend virtually every event.

He said Guernsey could be proud of its contribution to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration.
