PRINCE Charles expressed the Queen’s heartfelt thanks as Guernsey’s leaders reaffirmed their allegiance to the Crown at a special ceremony yesterday.
The Prince of Wales conveyed the message in an address to a gathering of deputies, members of the judiciary and parish officials. He thanked the delegates for their kind and touching welcome.
‘In this Diamond Jubilee year it is the greatest privilege and pleasure to represent Her Majesty the Queen here today and to have witnessed your renewed pledge of allegiance on behalf of the people of the Bailiwick of Guernsey,’ he said.
‘The Queen has asked me to convey to you all her heartfelt gratitude for this gesture – a reminder of the deep roots of loyalty to the Crown which have endured in these islands for over eight centuries.’
Bailiff Richard Collas earlier opened the ceremony by welcoming the royals and he gave a brief history of the island’s allegiance to the Crown.
The Bailiff then led the gathering in reaffirming their allegiance to the Queen on behalf of the Bailiwick.
