The Strand will reopen as soon as soon as it’s safe

THE Strand will reopen as soon as construction work there is completed, the man behind the closure said yesterday.

Paul Nobes owns a site on the south side of the road and is building a house on the land.

He said he had been forced to close the road on safety grounds

He added that while the road was set to be closed for a year, he would ensure that it was reopened as soon as it was safe – but it was unclear how long the construction would take.

Deputy Barry Brehaut, who is also on the Environment Department board, said he had looked into the issue and had hoped that pedestrian access would be reinstated, but that was not possible because there were concerns over safety.

This is hardly an emergency, it is to make life easy for the developer. Isn’t obstruction of the highway illegal? Doesn’t it require the approval of the Royal Court?

  I’d be very suprised if ANY building contractor would dare try this if they weren’t 100% certain they had permission to do it.
  
  In the last thread relating to this, a person posted the below from something called IRIS. Some form of permission for temporary obstruction?

Surely it is no big deal to walk along the seafront to get to the other end.

I have spoken to a couple of people who live at different houses in the strand

And they both cannot see what the fuss is about.

Some people just like to complain.The developer seems to have done things

Correctly.

I’ll bet Education are glad this isn’t happening in the Grange.They’ve got Portacabins on the way
