‘We won’t jeopardise students’ futures to save money’

EDUCATION will struggle to meet its savings target for next year and has asked the Policy Council for an extension.
Minister Robert Sillars, pictured, insisted his department was trying to meet the overall savings target by the end of 2014 – the final deadline for Financial Transformation Programme savings.
He denied Education was breaking its promise to taxpayers to deliver the required £3.5m. in FTP savings during 2013 – the department has to save more than £7m. in total by the end of the programme.
Deputy Sillars said Education would be unable to meet the current target without impacting on the ‘educational outcomes’ of students – something it was not prepared to do.

Quite a simple solution to this problem, introduce means testing for the college grants and you’ll see a saving straight away. Or, would that be to the detriment of the children? Although, I won’t state which group of children. nom nom nom.

Deputy Sherbourne ( first time I’ve heard of him)is not happy with the requirement to make savings and cannot think of any area in Education that can be cut back
