Ex-pat islanders are prepared for Hurricane Sandy

A FORMER Guernsey resident was yesterday braced for winds of up to 90mph and waves more than 12ft above sea level as Hurricane Sandy raged towards America’s east coast.
Gareth Forsey lives in Connecticut – about 50 miles north-east of New York.
He said all the schools had been shut, as well as all public transport and people had been told to stay home.
Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated from New York ahead of the hurricane, dubbed Frankenstorm, and a number of states along the east coast declared a state of emergency.
Another former Guernsey resident, Alison Hood, moved to Roanoke Island, North Carolina, in 1992.
Although the hurricane is not expected to pass directly over North Carolina, the paralegal has stocked up on extra water, food and batteries.

Whilst living in the Caribbean I remember living through a couple of major Atlantic storms in the late 90s. The damage they wreak certainly puts the Perelle road incident into perspective!

The NC coast was so lucky this hurricane season, being so closely located to the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” we are often in path of these dangerous storms. I am glad to have another year behind us.
