Emergency plan developed in case of fuel farm incident

AN EMERGENCY plan for fuel storage sites has been developed and leaflets about what to do in a disaster have been going out to residents.
The new measures follow an incident in Jersey last year which led to hundreds of people having to be evacuated from their homes after a fire in a gas holder in St Helier.
States emergency planning officer Catherine Veron said it was unlikely that a similar problem here would affect people living away from the site, but added that was no reason for complacency.
‘In the unlikely event of an incident occurring at one of the fuel storage sites, the plan would provide a guide for the emergency services and key supporting agencies for ensuring a coordinated multi-agency response,’ she said.
