CLEARING roads, homes and driveways has been the next step for former Guernsey residents who have been left to deal with the devastating after-effects of Hurricane Sandy.

More than seven million homes across the east coast of the United States are still without power and a reported 55 people have died.

The monster storm swept in from the Atlantic on Monday night, causing unprecedented damage in New York and New Jersey.

Gareth Forsey, who lives in Connecticut, said he still had no electricity and was unlikely to get any for another couple of days.

‘The main roads are getting cleared but side roads are still blocked by fallen trees,’ he said.
