Sark-based company ‘is compliant’
Tuesday 6th November 2012, 4:00PM GMT.
A SARK-based company that delivers thousands of supply teachers to the UK is fully transparent with HMRC and received clearance from it before establishing the business, its managing director has said.
Graeme Harker defended the business yesterday after it came under fire from a BBC programme, which claimed it had avoided paying millions of pounds in employer’s National Insurance. The programme also suggested that schools, councils or employment agencies could be liable for the shortfall.
However, Mr Harker said ISS – International Subcontracting Solutions Ltd – was a legal HM Revenue and Customs-compliant business.
‘ISS spent a considerable amount of time ensuring our business model was acceptable to the HMRC. It is important that it is understood that HMRC is not losing tax revenues as a consequence of ISS. ‘
