THE owner of two properties in Collings Road, St Peter Port, had a lucky escape last night as a fire destroyed an outhouse.
‘We came in the back of the property and found the owner, who was not aware there was a fire and there were no fire alarms in the properties,’ said head of fire safety Pierre Laine.
He said the incident highlighted the importance of having fire alarms fitted.
The Fire & Rescue Service received a call at 4.17pm. The road was closed until 7.30pm.
Fire safety manager Steve Wilkes said that two water tenders and one water tanker were sent to the properties.
