Longfield site set to become family homes

The Guernsey Housing Association has applied to the Environment Department for permission to build 15 houses at the former Longfield Centre site off Maurepas Road. 1283629
HOMES could be built on the former Longfield Centre site in Maurepas Road, if the Guernsey Housing Association gets planning permission.
The States-owned land would be sold to the GHA at a discounted price to allow for the £2m. development.
Guernsey Housing Association chief executive Steve Williams said the scheme would consist of 12 two-bedroom and three three-bedroom houses.
‘This site gives us an opportunity to provide an attractive clos of 15 houses with 30 parking spaces and their own rear gardens, providing a great spot to bring up your family near to a school and other facilities,’ he said.
‘The planning application has just been submitted so we would hope to have planning permission by spring 2013 and start building work in the summer 2013, after tendering the work locally.’

For a trivial additional cost each house could have been given an individuality that is once again missing in a Guernsey Housing Association project.
Banality once again dominates the appearance. Banal housing environments may eventual contaminate the lives and values of those living in such architectural’gems’.

Bland & boring! This is the type of area/place where so called glass boxes would be OK. As Rustylink says a good oppurtunity to create a mix of styles to create ambience.

They will all be for rental or Partial Ownership either way amied at people on lower incomes.

Why are we selling this off cheaply to a company, surely they should pay the going price, if we sell the Crown Jewells of local Government off cheaply, we all will have to pay more in the end in the way of tax?

The site will be used by the Guernsey Housing Association, a non profit making organisation.
For social housing, maybe some will go for partial ownership but in any event it is a site that will provide housing for those on the GHA waiting lists.
